Dentures (either full or partial) are fake teeth that can be added and removed from the mouth when needed to perfect your smile. Usually to take the place of missing teeth, whether this is one or more than one, dentures can give a person their confidence back when they were lacking because of the state of their teeth beforehand.
Full and Partial Dentures
Full dentures are exactly what they claim to be – a full set of dentures, either upper or lower, to replace all or some missing teeth. Partial dentures are segments of teeth, or sometimes just one tooth, that take the place of one or a few missing teeth, usually using a framework that can be inserted into the mouth, and held in place by clips or brackets. The partial denture is somewhat similar to a dental bridge in construction.
The fleshy part of your dentures (usually full) will be the area that is used to cover your gums, and your fake teeth will be on top of this to make it appear as if the dentures are actually “real” teeth. Some people find these rather odd to get used to, especially in younger years, but after a while of repeated use, you will soon find that your mouth and your lifestyle habits will adapt to meet these new additions to your mouth.
How to Care for Dentures
Ideally, you will want to care for these dentures in much the same way that you would care for your own teeth. They need to be cleaned twice daily and flossed to ensure food debris are removed from the crevices. Dentures are delicate and should never be placed in hot water to ensure that they don’t warp; they should always be cared for properly when they are not in your mouth.
Dentures are often a last resort for many people as teeth will often have to be removed in order to make a full imprint for dentures. There are other options available if you are only missing a few teeth, but for a series of problems, this is often the greatest, simplest resort to achieve your best smile.
